Fort Harrison Pathway

I set up for this painting in a side path at Fort Harrison.  While I was painting, rain was threatening.  After I got the first block in of the painting complete, I took a break to look at my weather app on my phone and saw that there was a large storm moving through Indianapolis.

Fall Glow 2015

There was a light fog in the air and it was beautiful to look towards the sun.  I pulled over in a park and painted this scene from my car.

Matthiessen State Park

In Illinois, I stopped here on the way home and painted a plein air of the fall scene.  It was an unusually warm day and perfect for standing outside.

1. Tree Line

This painting was started in plein air and finished in my studio.  The vertical lines of the trees and their reflections is what drew me in.  I was interested in the change of contrast and value of the reflections as they shift from the left to right in the view.  It was raining so I had to paint in my car, but through the dreariness I found something interesting.

Michael Buchanon Park

Initially I was interested in the layering of the foreground grass, trees, grass, field and far tree line.  I also like the way the dreary colors of the cloudy day are echoed in the bare trees and on the empty field.
