Series: Morning Promise

This is an interesting time to introduce this mini-series as the time corresponds to the Easter season. However, instead of intricate designs upon eggs, I have placed brown eggshells in a pattern with an emphasis on their present emptiness. They are the remnants or shell of what was once there. The eggshell is broken. To me the shell is something that has been overcome. Click an image for a larger view or comment on the paintings below.

Series: Action, Unification

Humans are bound by time. We are not able to truly revisit and experience the past. Nor can an individual view the past and present simultaneously. If one could see the remnants of the past fade as the present took place, how would this be composed? In response, I have created this imaginary experience with bone joints that are juxtaposed in order to capture action and unification. Click an image for a larger view. Rachel, when are you going to put the rest of your work up. Can’t wait to see it up. :-)

  2. Casey Says:

Love the work! the dimensions and shadowing are great because the bones seem to leap off the background.

  3. Cristy Evans McKenzie Says:

    Rachel-
You do beautiful work. I went to Rockford Christian and had your dad as a teacher.
I was also an art student at Anderson University. I am very impressed with what you do- the human form is not easy. Wishing you much success!

  4. Janna D Says:

    Rachel,
The website is well-done, and your work expresses depth and thought. The muted-warm hues and piece titles fascinate me. We should be in contact! Sorry not to have been able to talk more with you last week…

  5. nancy lee Says:

I like the new eggshell series, Rachel. They remind me of the hope for good things in the future, new life, a fresh start. Nice work.

  6. Joyce (Steely) Schmidt Says:

I enjoyed finding your portfolio! The egg-shells are meaningful to me. Thanks.

I have always been drawn to natural, organic objects and choose to portray them with oil on textured surfaces. Often, I present my subject in “dynamic still life” with a shift of time through movement or growth-decay. I am originally from the rust-belt city of Rockford, Illinois. I left the manufacturing town to study fine art at Asbury College and find inspiration among the rolling hills and forests of rural Kentucky. Although consistently representational, I strive to create subtlety layered visual and philosophical metaphors. In 2005, I returned to the country’s heartland where I am active in the local art community of Indianapolis, Indiana. Next to oil painting, my greatest passion is helping others appreciate art by teaching private classes.
