An old building hidden behind bushes and trees on a deserted road. A quiet and peaceful place on a cloudy winter day.

The fog was out on this morning and I stood under the open back of my vehicle to paint this scene. It was a quiet morning and the fog shifted through the scene revealing and then hiding the landscape as I painted.

This view couldn’t be seen until I pulled off the park road. The landscape opened up in front of me and drew me into nature and a scene that threatened to rain.

I pulled over on the windy road and painted this curving road and distant hill. Lead me into this forest so I can see around the bend.

Looking into the sun in the late afternoon in the mountains. Â I enjoyed the way the light sparkled through the foreground tree and the way the road curved around the mountain.

I was bundled up against the cold and standing in the shade at the end of the parking lot. Â The sun was shining down and casting morning shadows over the mountains.

I was fascinated with the patterns of shadows and light. Â The shadow from the foreground tree leading to the light on the path. Â The shadows of the row of trees beyond the path to the bright field behind.

Often I find that the light in the afternoon is not ideal for plein air, but here is a road that I did one afternoon in early June 2015. Â It was the third painting of the day and I had my little one distracting me as I worked, so I was glad to get something that turned out as well as it did. Â The one thing that I kept thinking as I was painting was that the piece did not look like me, but it turned out ok and in the month or more since I have gotten back to painting landscapes that feel more like me – or at least where I am now.
