This was the second painting while my family was walking around the lake. Â They finished while I was painting and were urging me to finish as they were anxious to eat supper. Â It was a cloudy evening with soft, calm light.

I was walking around Trillian Lake with my family and found a spot to paint. Â The rest of the family made it around the lake, but this was as far as I got.
Painting plein air or in the studio can be a very solitary activity, so I get excited when someone will paint with me. Â My brother Joshua is a talented self-taught artist and had never tried painting plein air with oils before. Â He stood and painted with me. Â Painting with oil paint is a lot different than acrylics, but hopefully he had fun. Â Here is my painting.

After breakfast we headed to the park where I found a spot in the shade of the hillside to paint. Â I love the huge rocks in the water. Â From the rocks to the sky which was cloudy near the horizon and clear above me, it was beautiful.

The sun was out when we left the hotel to head to the beach so that I could paint in the morning light. Â When we got to the beach the sky was blue above me, but a white fog was rolling in from the ocean and I was soon enveloped in white. Â By the end of the painting I could no longer see the ocean in front of me.
The beach was busy, but I was able to find a place in the shade of the hillside. Â There were some curious kids who enjoyed watching the start of my painting before they had to leave for the day. Â I chose to include a few figures in this painting to try to infer how large the rocks are on this coast.

The fog that had been moving from the ocean horizon to the coast arrived in the early evening and gave a glorious golden mist to everything.

I got up early and headed down to the rocky coast for a sunrise sketch as the fog rolled through.
