I worked on emphasizing the underlying colors and played with texture in this image. Â It was a very windy day and I had to hold on to the easel to keep everything from being blown away!
The scene glowed and I focused on the underlying patterns.
These trees had a cliff behind them.  The sun was coming from behind the  cliff and casting light through the trees but the cliff behind them was in darkness.
Just off the parking lot at a park. Â The gold in the tree contrasted with the mountains behind and the way the path drew me into the scene.
A few red trees in late autumn splendor at a park. Â The red against the blue distant hills was a beautiful color combination on this wonderful fall day.

There was a light fog in the air and it was beautiful to look towards the sun. Â I pulled over in a park and painted this scene from my car.
In Illinois, I stopped here on the way home and painted a plein air of the fall scene. Â It was an unusually warm day and perfect for standing outside.

In the morning, I started this painting in plein air. Â I had to stop before it was complete in order to pick up my campsite and make it out before checkout time. Â I later finished this painting in the studio.
