The sky was beautiful and the contrast and reflection made by the remains of the wooden posts interested me. Â It was a cold morning and I was bundled up to paint.

Another chance to paint with my feet in the sand. Â It shouldn’t matter what your feet are in while you paint, but there is something so comfortable and relaxing about having your feet in sand. Â I would back up to see the painting from further away and then go back to my position at the easel. Â My feet would dig back into the sand and I picked up my tool of brush or knife again.
It was a blazing afternoon and the different surfaces on the water drew my attention. Â This lonely bench caught my eye.

In the early morning I drove to this state park and saw this scene near the boat dock. It was the middle of May I went early to the park to paint in the early light and to paint before the park was filled with children enjoying May field trips!

I was fascinated with the layers in the reflection. There are the trees, the shadows from the trees, the sky, and the brown water of the lake. They fought for my attention, and they each had their own moment of beauty.

I looked at the lake and was caught by the how the reflections drew my eye up to the tangle of branches.

This painting was started in plein air and finished in my studio. Â The vertical lines of the trees and their reflections is what drew me in. Â I was interested in the change of contrast and value of the reflections as they shift from the left to right in the view. Â It was raining so I had to paint in my car, but through the dreariness I found something interesting.
