Another December winter painting along a deserted Kentucky country road.
This is the other painting from my trip to the missed lake. This was a plein air start that I finished in the studio and used my on site notes and value study, other location painting, and a photo reference.

This view couldn’t be seen until I pulled off the park road. The landscape opened up in front of me and drew me into nature and a scene that threatened to rain.

I was painting with a friend and we pulled off the road to get this field with the wonderful foreground leading into the image. I was fascinated by the clouds that were quickly changing but piled up in the sky. There was no real foreground, but I didn’t want to force one when the sky was what I wanted people to see.

On my return home, I ended up stopping at the same spot along the Illinois and Indiana border. It was ver windy, but warm so I was able to position myself half in and half out of my car and paint. The car sheltered me from the wind and kept my easel from toppling over!
