This picture is from October 2016 when these butterfly abstracts were in display at Cafe Patachou in downtown Indianapolis.
In September 2016 at the Harrison Center, I was a part of a two person show entitled Moths Alight, Butterflies in Flight. Â Allison Ford created beautiful moth inspired necklaces that were mounted on boards on one side of the gallery. Â Her intricate creations were static and mounted alight. Â My colorful, dynamic butterflies filled the other half of the gallery.
I’m pictured here working on the last touches of this large painting!
I recently completed this butterfly abstract commission painting.
You have probably seen the phrase, “dynamic still life,” around my website a few times. Why do I call the butterfly paintings in Patterns in Flight and the bone joint paintings in Action, Unification dynamic still life?
Butterflies are highly affected by the sun.  On a cloudy day, they will sit in their cage with their wings closed and practically hibernate.  When the sun comes out, they fly around.  The warmth and light invigorate them. View more butterflies in my gallery.
Recently, someone asked to interview me for a project of theirs, and I considered how some artist appear to others as aloof or distance. There’s often a lot going on in our minds (intellectually and emotional). I’d take a moment here in my blog to share where I am coming from when I make my work. Below are some of the questions he asked.
Perseverance. Rebirth. Vitality. Making new again
There are times when one looks back in time and remembers glimpses of what came before. Visually, one’s eyes are isolated to perceiving what is now, however through images, pieces of time can be superimposed. Time and animation are integral elements in my dynamic still life paintings. During their lives, butterflies are creatures that themselves undergo great change. They start as insects bound to the earth and transform into wonders of flight.
