Here is a cropped  image from an early stage of this butterfly abstract. I was laying in the pattern and starting to establish the colors in the underpainting.

This was the second painting of the day at the Converse paintout. Â I had to shift positions because of a complaining side kick, overly friendly kitten, and rain, which is a threat to my water-soluable paint.
I touched this one up later in the studio.
I have several jobs that I love. I love to paint. Â I love to teach. Â I love caring for my long awaited little miracle – my son. Â Here are some thoughts on managing the studio with a young baby. Â I have had to learn to work hard in short spurts of time between meeting the needs of the baby. Â When I first arrive at the studio, I squirt out my paint and make a plan in my head for what needs to be done to the painting that day. Â After that, it was time to take a break and care for the little one. Â It is possible to paint and be a mom – although I have less time ...
In Illinois, I stopped here on the way home and painted a plein air of the fall scene. Â It was an unusually warm day and perfect for standing outside.

Another close up crop of the texture. From a distance the colors meld to blue, but there is an energy and vibration in the color.
On my return home, I ended up stopping at the same spot along the Illinois and Indiana border. Â It was ver windy, but warm so I was able to position myself half in and half out of my car and paint. Â The car sheltered me from the wind and kept my easel from toppling over!

Here is an even closer look at the texture I have added to the inside wings of my current large butterfly abstract that is in progress. The inside wing is “blue” but this close up crop shows all the other colors that are in the paint that can be seen when looking at the small details!
This is one that was started on location and finished in the studio. Â It was the week after the time change last autumn and I did not realize how quick it was going to get dark. Â I thought I would have more time before my light disappeared.
I walked up to the Duck Pond and set up my easel. Â I was interested in the patterns the trees made and the reflection in the water.
